Sarah “Big Mama” Walters is a teacher t Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville. She teaches 9th grade global and geography and AP World History.

“Ed Parry, a 2017 alumni boxer, introduced me to Fight for Charity. Ed would talk to me about boxing everyday at school, and after I went to last year’s Main Event I was dead set on volunteering. No woulda- coulds-shouldas for me,” said Sarah.

“Training helped me regain the competitive spirit I had in college playing DII Lacrosse. I wanted my children and students to see me train and work towards a goal that most people would be afraid to attempt. I also wanted to support the goals of the FFC charities. During Hurricane Sandy FFC charities helped my family and neighbors maintain a sense of normalcy. My husband and I had two young children when we lost our home. In addition, I wanted to support my friends’ charity ‘The Cure Starts Now –LI Chapter.’ They lost their 5-year old daughter a few years ago to terminal brain cancer (DIPG). Research has led to new treatments that can slow down the growth of the brain tumors giving kids a fighting chance to knock this cancer out.” Sarah explained.

Sarah earned a Masters in Science in Special Education from LIU-Post. She is a member of the LIU-Post Women’s Lacrosse Alumni. She lives in Babylon with her husband, a FDNY Lieutenant, and their three children Will, Brody, and Kelsey.
