John “The Hammer” Sebastiano is an iron worker for Local 46. As an experienced lather, John is responsible for reinforcing concrete to increase the integrity of buildings, bridges and tunnels.
When John attended a Main Event for the first time in 2017, he immediately knew he wanted to become a Fight for Charity volunteer boxer and give back to the Long Island communities that he had been part of growing up.
“I volunteered to be a charity boxer because I wanted to fight for a good cause and I wanted to push my body mentally and physically to its limits. My friends at the gym gave me my ring name – The Hammer. My workouts will not just build muscle and improve my boxing skills. They will result in my building relationships with people that will last long after November,” said John.
“Fighting in the Main Event will give me a chance to accomplish the goals I set for myself and keep the promises I made to this charity. Although all the boxers are preparing to fight on November 19th, Jeff Cohen, co- founder of Fight for Charity, showed me that it is more than just a boxing match. The real fight for us started outside of the ring when we accepted the challenge to train rigorously while raising money for those less fortunate in our community.“
John is a graduate of Glen Cove High School and lives in Glen Cove.
